Third Person Mystery Adventure

Introduction

It's time to make something new. I will be updating this page over the coming weeks as I make progress.

I have had a simple idea of a young journalist invited to the a sleepy coastal town by a wealthy friend and gets caught up in a mysterious plot involving a the locals and mysterious dark magic.

Gameplay will be small open world third person perspective. The level will offer exploration and combat and the player will need to collect clues and speak to locals to suss out the plot. Potentially some simple economy as well and a day night cycle that affects the gameplay.

Goals

  • Capture my creative process

  • Improve presentation skills

  • Establish an organic place

  • Populate believably to create an engaging experience

  • Re-use and reinvent my own tools

Quick and dirty sketch to start plotting things out.

I brought it over to Photoshop to clean up a little and move things around to make sure everything has the space it needs.

As always references are everything

Changing the scope

Refined overview. Scale, Points of Interest are established.

I set out with the ambitious goal of creating a little world around some features I had already developed. After speaking to some friends I've decided the project is too open ended, and to be able to achieve something in the shorter team I should rework my focus, scope down and move on. I created a reel to capture the work that I put into building this world. Devlog with commentary in the works. Then onwards.
